Lions hold joint meeting Nov. 14, 2018

LaPorte and Maple City Lions held a joint meeting Nov. 14, 2018, to host Dist. Gov. Dennis Brown and Past Dist. Gov. Robin Smith at the Best Western Inn. LaPorte Boss Lion Tom Ruda led the Pledge of Allegiance and Sandra Provan offered prayer.

Each of the clubs received $7,676.37 from the Konowitz Trust.

Eye exams for school children will be held Dec. 4, 6 and 7, Jan. 16 and 17; call Lion Dennis Fisher at 326-1820 to help. Maple City Lion Jan Roberts said the clubs should call Marcia Smith at the Salvation Army to ring the bell during the Christmas season.

Maple City Boss Lion Dan McKibben said he was glad the two clubs could meet and work together.

Zone Chairman Brian Pagels gave membership awards from Lions Clubs International to Jerry Radersdorf, 35 years; Provan, 15 years; George Royster and Lisa Pierzakowski, 10 years. Provan said Lion Diane Spoljoric was mentioned at the annual convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Indiana for her work at Camp New Happenings for children of incarcerated parents.

Brown said he was born in LaPorte, lives in Kouts and works in Michigan City. He encouraged both clubs to donate to Lions Clubs International Foundation, which give grants all over the world, but also locally. He said every Lion should carry a membership application form and have a 30-second “elevator speech” about Lionism. He urged local clubs to work together on events like Kidsight, Lions Alert and hoagie sales.

Smith said, “Work together; you have more power together.”

Tail twister Ken Schnable brought in $11, which was shared by the clubs.
