Some fuzzy-faced city police officers make kids’ day

Photos and information provided

Maybe a few of these guys stopped in the shaving aisle to pick up a few items for themselves. On Dec. 15, 2018, several officers from the LaPorte City Police Department assisted local youths who could use a little cheer as they enjoyed Shop with a Cop at the LaPorte Walmart. Many of the officers had grown beards in recent months to raise money for the event. Staff members from Family Advocates partnered with the cops for the fun evening. And don’t you envy the officer in photo 3 who helped a couple of young women pick out some makeup?

What a silly thing. Shouldn’t they be out on the streets as they are paid to do?

I don’t think it is a silly thing when the police go into the public and interacts with them. As maligned as the men in blue are these days it is refreshing to see such a thing. I suppose you are also opposed to police who donate time to “Ring the Bell” for the Salvation Army as I have seen them do in the past. Bah Humbug to all who would rather “Grinch” at this time of year than to applaud good will.

Well I think it is pretty cool, yes they are police officers, BUT can’t they have fun too???? After all it was to raise money and not to mention that the youths really enjoyed it. Merry Christmas to all our officers and keep up the good work. And yes take time to enjoy yourselves with all the bad and sad things you see everyday.
God Bless you all……And thank you for ALL you do. Keep up the good work!!!!!

I think that events like this are good for our community. When police officers and young people engage each other in enjoyable activities, it’s healthy for both parties. Programs like this reveal the humanity of all of us. We’re all citizens of La Porte, are we not?

    Lynn,

These officers are VOLUNTEERING their time while the other scheduled officers are out on the streets. You DO know that Police Officers do get time off, right? Good grief.

Kudos to these officers to volunteer their time to take these under privileged teens on this shopping tour. I also find it absurd to think that the city was in a state of complete lawlessness during this event, I’m sure there was still a fully staffed patrol division on the streets at this time. May the spirit and joy of this Christmas season be with you also Lynn.
