For-sale signs have been placed in front of the current Center Township fire station, located at 305 W. Johnson Rd. The nearly 5,400-square-foot station has served the township since 1958 and is being replaced by a new building.

The new station, currently under construction, is located on Johnson Road roughly 1 mile west of the current station and just east of the Summit Farm. On the Center Township Fire and Rescue Facebook page, a message reads: “So many of us have spent so many years providing service to our neighbors, the sale of the old station is very bittersweet. The new station being built will be wonderful and will serve the residents of this township for many years to come. But … the memories, good and bad, that many of us have while we worked from this station, will remain.”

Bids for the 3 parcels of property and structures will be accepted at the Center Township Trustee’s Office, 1700 Lincolnway Place, until 4 p.m. Jan. 8. Bids will be opened at 5 p.m. on the same date in the trustee’s office. According to the legal ad, eligible offers must include a minimum bid of $203,000.

“The station is intended to be sold with the proceeds moving back into township accounts,” the Facebook message states. “Financial responsibility is critical to maintain our very enviable tax rates.”

I’m sure it’s already figured in for more office space on the golf course. Might even be town houses.

My prediction will be that Bob Magneson and or GMF development will probably purchase it.
