Jan. 2, 1919 — A 23-year-old auto thief tarried in LaPorte while his stolen car, a 1918 Dodge, was in a garage for three days. The telegraphic “advices” that the thief might be in LaPorte arrived after he left.

Jan. 2, 1969 — Pretty blonde Cynthia Sue Raven arrived at 8:04 a.m. to become the first New Year’s baby at E Street Hospital. Then baby boy Allen arrived at 8:45 a.m. Baby boy Papp came along at 1:50 p.m.

Jan. 2, 1994 — Gov. Evan Bayh and his wife Susan joined Kentucky Gov. John Brown for a foursome with President Clinton on New Year’s for 18 holes of golf at Hilton Head Island.

Jan. 2, 2009 — Superior Court 3 Judge Jennifer Evans is sworn in just two weeks after she was grazed in the head by a gunshot.
