Jan. 9, 1919 — The Indiana State Legislature endorses women’s suffrage. It passes a resolution calling upon the U.S. Senate to pass the Susan B. Anthony Amendment to the Federal Constitution.

Jan. 9, 1969 — Fighting in Vietnam last week killed 101 American soldiers in one of the lowest seven-day death tolls in two years, reflecting a three-day New Year’s truce called by the Viet Cong.

Jan. 9, 1994 — Twelve LaPorte County residents died because of guns last year — five were homicides, the rest suicides or accidents. Many others were injured.

Jan. 9, 2009 — Bedtime Stories, Marley & Me, Bride Wars, and Seven Pounds are showing at the LaPorte Cinema, 608 Colfax, in LaPorte. All shows are $1.50.
