Jan. 14, 1919 — A household of seven in LaPorte has a narrow escape from death. They were poisoned by a substance placed in a sack of flour thought to be arsenic intended by Germans for our troops.

Jan. 14, 1969 — At the inauguration yesterday, Edgar D. Whitcomb succeeded Roger D. Branigin as Indiana governor.

Jan. 14, 1994 — Karen Long, art teacher at LaPorte High School, says she has never seen a better painting by a student than the one of the Crucifixion of Christ by junior Amy Bernacchi.

Jan. 14, 2009 — The volleyball all-area first team includes Kim Trojan and Ariel Cudney from LaPorte and Margaux Jarka and Alicia Carlton from New Prairie.
