Jan. 18, 1919 — The world’s greatest peace conference opens in Paris. Twenty-five nations that have broken with Germany are represented.

Jan. 18, 1969 — Tibma Baking plans to build a new plant on Boyd Boulevard that will be one of the most advanced commercial baking plants in the world.

Jan. 18, 1994 — Former LaPorte Mayor Dennis Smith will make his second run for LaPorte Circuit Court judge. His father was a former circuit court judge and mayor, and he also has four attorney brothers.

Jan. 18, 2009 — The casino expansion in Michigan City is scheduled to open Thursday. The project includes a new spa, hotel tower and event center.
