Cutler seeks 2nd term on LaPorte City Council

Laura Cutler

Laura Cutler has announced her candidacy for a 2nd term on the LaPorte City Council. Cutler is entering her fourth year serving on the council, representing the Third Ward. She moved from New York City to LaPorte in 2004 with her husband Thaddeus Cutler, whose family has resided in the Third Ward for more than five generations. Cutler is a candidate on the Democratic ticket.

“I moved to LaPorte 14 years ago and have seen tremendous changes and am proud of the positive trajectory that the city is currently on. I want to help LaPorte continue to move forward,” she said in a press release.

Cutler received her BFA from Otis College of Art & Design, Los Angeles, CA, and her MFA from the New York Academy of Art, New York, NY. She has been co-owner of the Thaddeus C. Gallery in LaPorte since 2004 and serves on the Regional Arts Council for Region One of the Indiana Arts Commission, the Urban Enterprise Association Board, the Downtown Main Street and the Visual Arts Council of LaPorte. She is also city council liaison to the Business Improvement District and the Historic Preservation Commission.

During her first term on the council, Cutler partnered with LaPorte City Planner Beth Shrader and Mitch Feikes of Feikes Builders to bring the Joyful Noise Musical Instrument Sculptures to LaPorte. Currently she is working with the Visual Art Council on the upcoming Mural Project for Plaza 618.

“I am proud of all that has happened in the Third Ward over the last three years: the Beechwood Golf Course clubhouse renovation, new irrigation system and Chalik Pavilion, Plaza 618, and numerous new businesses in the downtown including Salon Rogue, RQAW, Hot Spot Café and soon Bare Bones Gastropub. There is so much happening in LaPorte and the Third Ward is a big part of it!”
