LaPorte County officers had to pursue an errant driver not once, but twice, before the driver crashed into a tree and was apprehended Feb. 26, 2019.

Deputy Ryan Doperalski was dispatched to the 5000 east block of Miami Trail at about 9:30 p.m. to check out a suspicious person. Doperalski spotted a vehicle possibly associated with the complaint and tried to make a traffic stop, but the driver fled. Doperalski chased the car along CR 500 East, CR 1000 North and CR 650 East. Once the car crossed into Michigan on CR 650 East, the LaPorte County chase was terminated.

Just minutes later, Sgt. Jonathan Burger was traveling east on CR 1000 North near CR 150 East when he saw the same vehicle cross the center line. Burger chased the car west on CR 1000 North, then south on Ind. 39. At the curve at 39 near CR 925 North, the driver lost control and the car left the road and hit a tree.

The driver was identified as Mark A. Harrington, 48, of Three Oaks, MI. Harrington was taken to LaPorte Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and subsequently arrested for Resisting Law Enforcement (Level 6 Felony), Operating While Intoxicated (Level 6 Felony), Aggressive Driving (A-Misdemeanor), Operating While Intoxicated (Above .15, A-Misdemeanor), Operating While Intoxicated (Endangerment, A-Misdemeanor) and Reckless Driving (C-Misdemeanor).

Harrington has since bonded out and been released from LaPorte County Jail.
