March 8, 1919 — In the basketball sectional, LaPorte defeats LaCrosse and Wanatah loses to Elkhart in the morning, and LaPorte defeats Elkhart and Michigan City loses to South Bend this afternoon.

March 8, 1969 — America’s magnificent Apollo 9 moonship fliers pass the halfway mark of their voyage.

March 8, 1994 — Indiana brings in a record $36.5 million from visitors. A campaign increased the average number of trips to the state by almost 15 percent.

March 8, 2009 — Local lake levels are at their highest since 1994.
