March 9, 1919 — Uncle Sam is in for the biggest job in history in feeding millions of undernourished people in central Europe while furnishing his own domestic requirements and those of the allied nations.

March 9, 1969 — Michael Milligan, downtown LaPorte merchant, pushes snow off the sidewalk in front of his store after this morning’s first measurable precipitation of the month.

March 9, 1994 — Michigan and Purdue are tied for the Big Ten basketball lead with one game left to play, and no one else can catch them.

March 9, 2009 — Michigan State is the Big Ten men’s basketball champion, but nine Big Ten teams are eyeing the NCAA Tournament.
