March 21, 1919 — Seven cases of sleeping illness are reported in South Bend. Symptoms are apathy, lethargy, drowsiness, stupor, absence of initiative or spontaneity, and delusions and hallucinations.

March 21, 1969 — The director of the Michigan City Head Start program is charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and resisting arrest.

March 21, 1994 — First-place winners in the LaPorte School Corporation Spelling Bee are Betsey Adams (grades 3-4), Valerie Martinsen (grades 5-6), and Amanda Kenyon (grades 7-8).

March 21, 2009 — A man accused of robbing a local tobacco store at gunpoint says he needed money for his son’s surgery.
