Roszelia Smyers, 1926-2019

Roszelia Mae Smyers, of Granger, IN, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019. She had lived in LaPorte, IN, most of her life.

She was born Jan. 20, 1926, in Hebron, IN, to Ray and Matilda (Garvey) Flynn.

Roszelia was employed with the former McClellan’s Dime Store and Schafer’s Dry Cleaning in LaPorte. She was a member of LaPorte VFW Auxiliary 1130.

On April 27, 1946 in Wellsboro, IN, she married Walter Smyers, who preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1996.

Roszelia leaves behind a son, Harry C. “Chuck” (Beckey) Smyers of Granger, IN; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; a son, Walter David Smyers; a sister, Helen Cites; two brothers, David Flynn and Lester Flynn; a half-sister, Margaret Coyle; a half-brother, John Clinger; and a granddaughter.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. (CST) Tuesday, March 26, at Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte. The officiant will be Rosemary Ware. Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, LaPorte, is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 230 W. Catalpa Drive, Mishawaka, IN 46545.

    Mrs. Smyers was a great lady not only did I know her family wise I also worked with her at Schafer dry cleaning. My thoughts are with you Chuck and Becky

    So sorry to hear of your mother’s passing, a great lady she was, always laughing, smiling. I was John Clingers next door neighbor. Peace and God’s Love be with you.
