New Michigan City company will manufacture cannabidiol

Information from Michigan City EDCMC

A Colorado company is expanding into Michigan City to add to the growing business of industrial hemp. PHM Brands LLC will be one of the state’s first processors of cannabidiol, or CBD.

(Editor’s note: According to WebMD, CBD is a “non-intoxicating marijuana extract (sometimes used to) treat a host of medical problems — everything from epileptic seizures to anxiety to inflammation to sleeplessness.”)

PHM Brands sells a variety of agricultural-based specialty ingredients and blended products in 5 locations throughout the United States. PHM, headquartered in Denver, CO, is a family of companies that include Panhandle Milling, New Mexico Milling, Specialty Grains, Specialty Blends, Specialty Feeds, Hippo Extracts, and Viobin.

“Michigan City has become a top location for companies looking for a competitive advantage. Our location, quality of life and workforce are key assets for a growing business.” said Michigan City Mayor Ron Meer. “I am happy to welcome another corporation to our community that is bringing more high paying jobs for our residents.”

The company will be investing more than $6 million and creating 32 new jobs averaging $20 per hour for the Michigan City facility in its first phase.

John Mason, partner at PMH Brands, said, “Michigan City was an easy choice for us after we had an opportunity to look at surrounding states and communities. The city staff and the EDCMC (Economic Development Commission of Michigan City) were very helpful and responded quickly to our needs and concerns. Michigan City customer service was impeccable and we are looking forward to being part of your community.”

PMH Brands received an industrial hemp research license in February 2018, becoming one of just a few Hoosier companies legally allowed to handle hemp in Indiana.

Companies looking to expand their business may call the EDCMC at (219) 873-1211 for more information. For more information on PHM Brands, visit https://www.phmbrands.com/

When will this plant be opened, and where is it going to be in Michigan City, and how do I apply for this job?
