Genealogists learn about local flour mill and brickyard

On April 9, 2019, the LaPorte County Genealogical Society met at the LaPorte City Park Department Headquarters at 250 Pine Lake Ave. A business meeting was followed by refreshments, provided by Alan Zeller.

The program kept the attention of a large group of members and guests. Bill Breining, of Trail Creek, spoke of “The Roeske Family of Michigan City and Their Flour Mill and Brickyard.” He introduced this family of German immigrants, their extended family connections in Trail Creek, and their impact on the area of northern LaPorte County.

On May 14, the society will meet at the same location. William Adams and Kim Wiseman will present “The Vacant Chair: Civil War Soldiers and Widows.”
