Hurry — LP Airport Aviation Camp slots are filling up quickly

The LaPorte Municipal Airport will host its annual Aviation Camp for youths entering grades 6-12 from June 10-14.

Two age group camps will be held: for youths entering grades 6-8, and for youths entering grades 9-12.

No registrations will be accepted after May 17! Registration is filling up quickly. Visit https://laporteairport.com/ and find Summer Aviation Camp 2019 on the main page to download registration forms. Cost per youth is $50. Bring or mail the completed form and a check for $50/student to the LaPorte Municipal Airport, 2341 S. Ind. 39, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. by May 17.

Included in camp for youths entering grades 6-8:

— Flight from local pilot (weather dependent)

— Speakers including a Lockheed Martin engineer, Delta pilot, and drone operator for predator/reaper program

— Navigation – how do pilots get from Point A to Point B – learn to chart your own course

— Behind-the-scenes tour – learn about runway markings and things with crazy acronyms such as AWOS and PAPI

— Classes on aerodynamics and basic aviation knowledge

— Field trip to Grissom Air Museum

— Test what you learn in the airport’s first-ever Aviation Escape Room

Included in camp for youths entering grades 9-12:

— Flight from local pilot (weather dependent)

— Speakers include a Lockheed Martin engineer, Delta pilot, and predator/reaper drone operator

— Behind-the-scenes tour – learn about runway markings and things with acronyms such as AWOS and PAPI

— Field trip to South Bend Airport: Visit the ATC tower and get a behind-the-scenes tour of the airport

— Arconic Power & Propulsion – find out what this local company builds for the aerospace industry and the good jobs available

— Classes on aerodynamics and basic aviation knowledge

— Try your hand flying a simulator

— Test what you learn in the airport’s first-ever Aviation Escape Room
