Nearly 30 people gathered just outside LaPorte Hospital’s main entrance April 24, 2019, to take part in a special ceremony recognizing April as National Donate Life Month. The campaign is to encourage people to register as organ, eye and tissue donors.
During the Wednesday morning event, a Donate Life Indiana flag was hoisted as representatives from LaPorte Hospital, Indiana Donor Network, VisionFirst Indiana Lions Eye Bank, along with two transplant recipients, were present.
Organ recipients Kathy Lewis and Doris Mitchell talked about the importance of organ donation and the impact it had in their lives. During the past year, LaPorte Hospital treated 750 patients through organ and tissue donations. 38 other patients received cornea donations.

Many people live and give in so many ways. Signing up to be a donor on the license is on truly gracious act for those who don’t know what tomorrow holds. I am proud to be a part of the donors who can give after death for those needing what would otherwise be discarded. America cares!

Bless the donors and the victims who will receive . . .
