Sean Fitzpatrick is seeking to retain the 4th Ward Michigan City council seat vacated by State Representative Pat Boy. Fitzpatrick won the seat in an election by the Precinct Committee representatives at the end of 2018.

Fitzpatrick serves on the boards of the Salvation Army, Family Advocates, North Central Community Action Agency and the LaPorte County Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI), where he currently serves as chair.

“Our future is bright here in Michigan City. I’m looking forward to the next four years and working with the council to be the voice for people who would otherwise not have one,” he said.

He has shown his commitment in several ordinances presented over the last four months. Sean brought forth a Whistle Blower Protection ordinance for city employees and a Youth Commission ordinance to include youth leaders in the decision-making process, which have both passed. He recently introduced an ordinance to assist elderly and disabled residents with basic seasonal yard maintenance.

Fitzpatrick has also listened to the residents in the 4th Ward through door knocking and hosting a town hall. Through feedback he received, Sean has had assessments done on speed in the South Gate area and lighting on Pahs Road. “Community safety is of the utmost importance to me, whether it’s pedestrian travel on Pahs Road or children playing in South Gate. I want to make sure all of our residents are safe.”

Sean is also reaching out to assist local businesses such as the Calumet Pallet Company to bring them up to City Municipal Code with the assistance of the fire marshals. “Small businesses are the key to keeping residents employed and increasing the city’s base.

“I appreciate the support of the local residents and hope to continue fighting for them,” he said.
