Boy apprehended minutes after attempted armed robbery at LP Long John Silver

A 12-year-old boy was taken into custody shortly after an attempted armed robbery at Long John Silver, 602 J St., LaPorte, on April 30, 2019, at about 11:30 a.m.

The suspect was armed with a knife, LaPorte Police said. Restaurant employees provided a detailed description of the suspect and told police that no money was obtained.

As Det. Sgt. Airy arrived, he saw a juvenile matching the suspect’s description walking away from the business. Officers detained the boy within five minutes of the original call and were able to have employees identify the boy as the attempted robber.

A knife was found in a nearby yard and taken as evidence.

The boy was transported to the LaPorte County Juvenile Detention Center.

I don’t care how old he is, if he’s trying to threaten people with violence to steal their money, his name and his parents’ names should be made public. What has happened to this country???

Before we condemn this 12 year old child to the worst, can we stop and consider that maybe this was a desperate act to feed himself? There is an alarming number of students in our community who eat a school lunch and that’s it. I want to believe that there would be a very good reason for a 12-year old to attempt armed robbery.

I agree with you JB. In this day and age of trying people in the court of public opinion needs to stop. What this 12 year old tried to do is wrong but let us wait and see if there is some underlying cause that maybe led up to this.
