Press release provided

Are you ready to build the future of play in LaPorte? The Fort La Play Porte Redesign and Rebuild Steering Committee has been hard at work to ensure we are ready for a fun, exciting and fulfilling build week from June 10-15. The project is fully funded, thanks to the generosity of our community, and now all we need are volunteers to build a newly renovated play structure in Kesling Park for the next generation of children.

The committee has been planning build shifts, food menus, child care activities and more. Most importantly, we’re focusing on YOU, our community, as we’re getting ever closer and more excited to host you on the job site. We’re looking for lots of volunteers of all levels of skill, as there are many ways you’ll be able to help once you get on site. (Don’t worry if you don’t consider yourself a master builder.) Building materials will need to be prepped, sorted, carried, replenished and assembled in place on the playground.

We have a few unique volunteer needs to fill for the Fort La Play Porte rebuild:

— CREW LEADERS: We’re looking for 8-10 community members with solid construction/carpentry experience who can lead our volunteer crews through the week.

— FOOD COMMITTEE: Help to organize, set up, and serve food and drinks to our volunteers on the build site.

— CHILD CARE VOLUNTEERS: Supervise and entertain the kids of our build volunteers during their shifts.

What can you look forward to as a volunteer to rebuild Fort La Play Porte? We’ll have meals on site (lunch and dinner) and we’ll also have child care available for your kids during your shift. Most importantly, you can count on this being a fun and unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

Ready to sign up? Shifts run from 8 a.m.-noon, 12:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. and 5-8:30 p.m. each day of the build. Register for a shift or fill out our volunteer interest form at Businesses and organizations are encouraged to schedule as groups.

This place really needs GARBAGE CANS. It’s full of empty bottles and cans, dirty diapers, and other garbage. I’m surprised there aren’t needles laying around.
