May 10, 1919 — LaPorte now has a branch of the Independent Order of Foresters with a charter membership of 87. The order maintains an orphanage and a sanitarium.

May 10, 1969 — U.S. Marines marched for two nights without sleep to attack North Vietnamese troops headed toward Da Nang and kill at least 129 in two days of fighting.

May 10, 1994 — For the first time ever, an Indianapolis 500 qualifying day conflicts with an Indiana Pacers playoff game.

May 10, 2009 — Boston, Crichfield and Wanatah schools have the highest percentage of students who passed the ISTEP test in the county.
