Phillip Janik Sr., 1939-2019

Phillip A. Janik Sr., 79, of LaPorte, IN, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2019, at LaPorte Hospital.

He was born Oct. 7, 1939, in East Chicago, IN, to Michael and Mary (Yameroz) Janik.

Phillip was a Line Operator for more than 30 years at Ford Motor Company. He enjoyed fishing, food, flowers, feeding birds, the NRA, family reunions, and old cars.

On Sept. 16, 1957, he married Wilma Dian Cooper, who preceded him in death in 2016.

Surviving are his beloved children, Debbie (Jay) Jalovecky of Kingsford Heights, IN, Phil (Carol) Janik Jr. of LaPorte, Edward (Laura) Janik of LaPorte and Sandra (Suzi) Janik of Mt. Dora, FL; 9 grandchildren; 7.5 great-grandchildren; 3 siblings; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and siblings.

A Celebration of Life Service with Full Military Honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 20, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, LaPorte. Pastor Ben Crosstreet will officiate. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, May 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will follow the service at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso, IN.
