LP County officers nab felon with loaded gun in car on U.S. 20

A driver traveling through LaPorte County on U.S. 20 May 13, 2019, was arrested after a gun was found in his car and police learned he was a felon.

Donald Brewster, 25, of South Bend, now faces charges of Never Receiving a License (C Misdemeanor) and Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon (Level 4 Felony). He was transported to LaPorte County Jail and was being held on a $20,005 cash-only bond.

Deputy John Roby Jr. made a traffic stop after noticing an infraction in the 3000 east block of U.S. 20, near Wilhelm Road. Roby learned the driver, Brewster, had never received a license. During an inventory and search, a loaded firearm was located within the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

County police did not include information on Brewster’s prior felonies.
