Scholarship available to students seeking a career in surgical environment

LaPorte and Porter County students seeking a career in the surgical environment may apply for an award of up to $5,000 through the Maria Petti Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship was established as a living memorial to Maria Petti, Franciscan Health Michigan City peri-operative director. She nurtured and inspired many students she mentored over her 35 years at the hospital. The scholarship was created to ensure that her passion for health care and the operating room environment she so loved will live on.

Scholarship applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • U.S. citizen and high school graduate
  • Resident of LaPorte County or Porter County
  • Proof of active enrollment in an accredited surgical technology program or nursing program
  • Completed prerequisite nursing courses prior to application
  • 2.5 GPA or higher

Special consideration will be given to applicants with a volunteer or work history in health care. Scholarship winners will be given preferential consideration for hire upon graduation. For more information about the scholarship, call (219) 877-1969. Applications and two letters of recommendation must be postmarked on or before Friday, May 31, 2019.
