LP County Symphony will present free concert in New Buffalo July 3, complete with fireworks

The LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra will perform Wednesday, July 3, at 7:30 p.m. LaPorte time, 8:30 p.m. New Buffalo time, at Lions Park in New Buffalo, MI, followed by fireworks over Lake Michigan. This event, sponsored by The Pokagon Fund and the New Buffalo Business Association, will be free and open to the public.

This marks the 5th year the symphony will be in concert on this date in New Buffalo. Tim King, symphony executive director, stated: “This is a real treat for the LCSO as we get to celebrate, through music, our Independence Day. We are honored that The Pokagon Fund and the New Buffalo Business Association have invited us to return for a 5th time.”
Guest conducting this concert will be Bob Bernhardt. He is presently the principal Pops conductor of the Grand Rapids Symphony, The Louisville Orchestra and the Chattanooga Symphony. In addition, he is a regular guest conductor with the Edmonton Symphony in Canada and has guest conducted the Boston Pops every year for the past 30 years. Bernhardt is in demand as a Pops and Opera conductor around the country. More information about Bob Bernhardt may be found at: www.lcso.net.
The July 3 program includes selections by John Philip Sousa, George M. Cohan and John Williams. Also featured will be a medley from “Oklahoma!” as well as music from “The Lion King” and “Les Misérables.”  The orchestra will present the “Armed Forces Salute” to end the first half and “Sing Out! America” sing along to end the second half, and will continue playing while the audience enjoys the post-concert fireworks over Lake Michigan. Tunes will include Sousa’s “The Stars & Stripes Forever” and Williams’ “Star Wars” Theme.
This concert is free and open to the public. Patrons are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets. Concessions will be offered at Lions Park both before and during the concert. For more information visit www.lcso.net.
