July 12, 1919 — Nearly 2,000 employees of the Advance-Rumely family will go to Silver Lake, Interlaken, for their annual outing. Today the office force of Samuel Fox’s Sons went to Michigan City.

July 12, 1969 — About two-thirds of the Michigan City police force call in “sick” today after a night-long meeting on a salary schedule. Area officers are called to work the 1 p.m. festival parade.

July 12, 1994 — The 1995 Little 500 bicycle race in Bloomington will be a trimmed version of the event once billed as “The World’s Greatest College Weekend.”

July 12, 2009 — Police, prison guards and search dogs hunt for two convicted killers and a man convicted of rape who escaped the maximum-security Indiana State Prison, apparently through underground pipes.
