Turns out folks at the Indiana Department of Transportation Northwest (LaPorte Office) have a great sense of humor. Here’s a post from its page:
U.S. 35 BRIDGE – LAPORTE COUNTY
WARNING: Terrible “dad joke” ahead. Proceed with caution.
Knock, knock
Who’s there?
Orange.
Orange who?
ORANGE you glad we painted the bridge orange?
Sorry. That was ridiculous. You deserve better.
But, anyway. Yeah. We painted the bridge beams orange! The City of LaPorte requested this — in case you aren’t aware, orange is kind of a thing around here in Slicer country — and we were happy to oblige. The northbound side of the bridge is now a vibrant shade of orange. Once that southbound side is complete, it will follow suit.
And feel free to steal that joke to share at your next party. You know, if you’re looking for that party to end very abruptly.

Not sure I agree with this… don’t mean to be a “Debbie Downer” however what about the other great schools in La Porte County?
Maybe they should do sections in different school colors that represent ALL of La Porte County and not just one school. While the bridge may be in downtown La Porte, and I mean no disrespect to the Slicers however there are Cougars, Satellites, Blackhawks, Wolves, Blazers, Lakers and yes, even Tigers drive over that bridge!

I think one one the few that thinks it looks tacky not classy. It looks like primer paint or something a road crew would wear.

Oh my goodness…it is orange because of the slicers IN LAPORTE. Every one of those little towns shows there own pride. Get over it…. not everyone gets a ribbon…Besides maybe its Allis orange…

Great color, forward thinking. A tribute to both The La Porte Slicers and the late, great La Porte Allis-Chalmers facility and iconic farm machinery. Well done La Porte!

Westville colors are orange and black so at least one other school is represented : } Also, Allis Chalmers employed many county residents over the years including myself.

Maybe they’ll paint the new overpass at 2 & 20 blue & gold. If they’re gonna do for one. They better do for all.

This is so trivial. I am just happy that we have a nice new overpass. Orange looks fine.

I think it’s a great idea! We should have the Slicer emblem across on the face of the bridge. Michigan City has something similar on the I-94 bridge. When 2 and 20 construction is done, sure NP could have a Cougar painted on that as well! Why not celebrate our schools around here?
