Emergency blood shortage continues; here are your next opportunities to donate

The summer emergency blood shortage continues and folks are encouraged to donate blood to help the Red Cross replenish hospital supplies. Blood donations are vitally needed not only for accident victims, but for patients undergoing cancer, heart and a variety of other surgeries. Here are upcoming Red Cross blood drives in LaPorte County. Just show up at a blood drive to give, or make an appointment ahead of time by calling 1-800-733-2767 or visiting redcrossblood.org.


8/17/2019: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., Hanna United Methodist Church, 101 W. Hopper Street


8/26/2019: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., LaPorte Hospital, 1007 W. Lincolnway

Michigan City

8/21/2019: 2 p.m. – 6 p.m., St. Stanislaus, 1506 Washington St.

8/22/2019: 3 p.m. – 7 p.m., Immanuel Lutheran, 1237 East Coolspring Ave.

8/23/2019: 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Palko Services, 4991 W. U.S. 20

8/28/2019: 12:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., Michigan City Fire Training Center, 2510 E. Michigan Blvd.

    Maybe if the Red Cross didn’t do away with locally ran office, there wouldn’t be this issue. It used to be a great thing, now it’s just some bureaucratically ran mess.

      Regardless of how it’s run, we need to donate blood. Seems people always find an excuse why they don’t. Some day they or a loved one might need to receive blood. It isn’t that difficult to donate.
      And yes, I am a blood donor.

    No one is sorrier than I am about the Red Cross office; however, that is what seems to be our future for cost reduction and the lack of the age of Just Do It! (JDI) I am not here to create anger or arguments. I would like to jump in for half of the time needing to be covered.
