Oct. 9, 1919 — The Reds win the World Series today by walloping three White Sox pitchers.

Oct. 9, 1969 — La Porte man George R. Oakes is honored for 40 years of continuous service with A&P, the Atlantic and Pacific Food store at 1505 Lincolnway.

Oct. 9, 1994 — A day that some thought might never come did when ground was broken for a New Prairie elementary school to replace Galena and Hudson Lake elementaries, which will close.

Oct. 9, 2009 — The vaccine for the H1N1virus, also known as swine flu, concerns South Central parents.
