Benjamin Penwell, 1936-2019

Benjamin C. Penwell, 83, of La Porte, IN, passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019.

He was born April 13, 1936, in Rising Sun, IN, to Benjamin C. Penwell and Mary (O’Connor) Dean and he was the oldest of 12 children.

Benjamin worked as a welder.  He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post 295 in Union Mills, IN.

He is survived by his children, Tina Jackman of Strasburg, VA, Steve (Nicole) Penwell of Banbridge, OH, June Cox of Leesburg, OH, Ervene Shuck of Front Royal, VA, Joseph Penwell of Strasburg, VA, Ryan (Lynn) Kellogg of Michigan City, IN, Carey Kellogg of La Porte, and Shelby Kellogg of La Porte; 31 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Blonde Polick and Betty (Charlie) Wilson, both of La Porte;  and special friends, Arnette Kellogg, Phyllis Calhoun and Shirley Todd.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, La Porte. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
