Think all is calm this season? Visit a La Porte County gym

It was a busy weekend, Dec. 6-7, for sports in La Porte County, including a couple of cross-county rivalry basketball games.

On Friday night the LaCrosse Tigers traveled to Westville in a boys-girls varsity double header. Westville took both games and the traveling Porter County Conference Trophy. The Westville varsity girls defeated LaCrosse, 59-46. It was the 10th win for the undefeated Lady Blackhawks. In the boys game, Westville bested the Tigers by a score of 58-47.

Also on Friday night, Michigan City dropped a close game to Gary West Side, 55 -53, while La Porte dropped a game to South Bend Washington, 69-44.

The day started early for La Porte Slicer wrestlers as they hosted the La Porte Wrestling Invitational. Teams in the tourney included Hammond, Merrillville, Northwood, South Bend St. Joe and Knox. La Porte finished with three wins and two losses. Matt Neff, Trae Anderson, Tyson Nisley and Ashton Jackson went 5-0 and were undefeated for the Slicers.

On Saturday night the Slicer girls basketball team traveled to Elkhart Concord and won a close game, 59-56. The Slicer boys played at New Prairie and defeated the Cougars, 58-42. In South County action, the South Central Satellites hosted the Bremen Lions and dropped their home game, 65-57.
