Extrication needed for both drivers involved in Jan. 2 crash

Emergency responders were called to the 8000 W. block of County Road 400 N. at approximately 10:35 a.m. Thursday morning, Jan. 2, 2020, for a two-vehicle crash. Coolspring Township firefighters found two vehicles involved with extrication needed from both vehicles.

Mutual aid was summoned from the Michigan City Fire Department, with each department using the “jaws of life” to extricated the driver of each vehicle. Both drivers were believed to be in serious to critical condition when taken to nearby Franciscan Hospital.

The crash, which occurred in a curve on the west side of the bridge that crosses over CR 400 N, cause the road to be closed in that area for approximately one hour. It is not known what caused the crash, however firefighters reported that the roadway was dry and the weather was good at the time.
