Memorial service scheduled for Connie and John Reed

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held for the Reeds at noon Jan. 17, 2020, at Fish Lake Community Church, 7592 East Ind. 4, Walkerton, IN.

Constance “Connie” Reed, 74, passed away Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019, at Golden Living Center, La Porte, IN.

She was born in Chicago, IL, on Dec. 13, 1945, to Robert and Ethel (Arno) Waul.

Connie worked as a hairstylist and taught cosmetology at North Central Beauty Academy. In 1984 she and her family moved to Montgomery, AL, where she managed a beauty supply store. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She enjoyed swimming, gardening and just being outdoors. She also loved animals and was involved in animal rescue.

On Aug. 11, 1963, in La Porte County, she married John Reed, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are two grandchildren, Amber and Christopher of Montgomery, AL, and one sister, Debra (Waul) Ridge of Walkerton, IN.

She is now reunited in heaven with her parents; her husband, John; their two children, Dawn and Darrin; and one grandchild, all of whom preceded her in death.

Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.

Remembering John Lowell Reed, formerly of La Porte, IN. He and his family moved to Montgomery, AL, in 1983, where he passed away suddenly on April 16, 2012, following an accident.

John was born Feb. 25, 1942, in La Porte to Arno and Hazel (Six) Reed.

On Aug. 11, 1963, in La Porte County, he married Constance “Connie” Waul. They met as young teenagers and are now reunited in heaven along with their daughter, Dawn; son, Darrin; and granddaughter, Bobbi. He was also preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.

After high school John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving six years and receiving training as a mechanic. He then bought a small farm east of La Porte, where he and his family sometimes kept horses and pigs. For most of his life he worked as an ASE-certified mechanic for Volkswagen, Porsche and Audi dealerships, first in Gary, then at Jack Ingram Motors in Montgomery, AL. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He enjoyed cars, woodworking and spending time with his family.

Cremation took place at Southern Memorial Funeral Home and Crematorium, Montgomery, AL.

    Albeit I knew neither of them, but I wanted to say that I’m sorry for your loss and tell you that the inclusion of the older obituary for her husband along with hers is one of the most thoughtful and poignant aspects of any obituary I have ever read.

    I went to Salem Chapel church with the Reeds, they were a great addition to our congregation, what a sad situation the family had to go through.
    Now they all can be at peace together!!!!
