At a LaLumiere game, the gym is part of the fun

Michigan City’s basketball team traveled to LaLumiere for a JV/Varsity basketball game Tuesday night, Jan. 14, 2020. If you’ve never been to a night game there, you need to go for no other reason than to see Marsch Gym. In what’s called a half-pipe shape, the gym was designed by modernist architect Helmut Jahn in the late 1970s. And it’s quite a sight all lit up.

WNLP contributor Mike Kellems called it “a Quonset hut-style building, the lighting and its reflection on the gym floor make this a unique venue to shoot photos for a ball game.”

That gym has some mojo, as the Lakers are currently ranked No. 10 in the nation and routinely play single-digit-ranked teams around the United States. At this game, LaLumiere downed Michigan City 89-54.
