Jan. 16, 1920 — A.J. Stahl buys the Grandstaff grocery building. Seven years ago, at the time of the Rumely boom and subsequent real estate activities, Mr. Stahl started a boom in real estate prices.

Jan. 16, 1970 — In the county’s 1969 “cradle race,” the baby boys outnumbered the baby girls, 398 to 363.

Jan. 16, 1995 — Multimedia Cablevision says that beginning April 1 the basic rate for cable users will increase by $1 to $20.29, still $1.66 less a month than the rate it charged on Jan. 1, 1993.

Jan. 16, 2010 — An inmate at the Indiana State Prison has died after receiving three stab wounds in his back. He had a 55-year-sentence for attempting to commit murder.
