Jennifer Evans joins clinical staff at Swanson Center

Jennifer Evans, MS, FNP-BC, PMHNP, has recently become a member of the clinical staff at Swanson Center, the community mental health center for LaPorte County.

Evans will diagnose and treat behavioral health conditions, manage psychiatric medication and make treatment recommendations for clients of all ages.  She will work out of the Michigan City office.

Evans comes to Swanson Center with prior outpatient mental health experience, and also has several years of experience working as a nurse practitioner in a family practice setting.

“Having worked as a primary care provider has helped me understand how to treat the whole patient, and to see how important that mental and emotional health really can be (as a part of the treatment process),” said Evans.  She chose to remain in LaPorte County to continue helping to improve the overall health of her patients and community.

Evans earned her Post-Certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health from Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky, and both her Bachelor’s and Master of Science in Nursing degrees from Purdue University.  She is a board-certified nurse practitioner.  Her clinical work experience includes being the Site Medical Director at Healthlinc in Michigan City, as well as being a Clinical Nursing Instructor at Purdue Northwest (in Westville, Indiana).

An Indiana community mental health center, Swanson Center provides the full continuum of mental and behavioral health services to La Porte County residents, including psychiatric medicine, outpatient individual, group, and family therapies, substance use disorder treatment, community-based, as well as school-based case management, child and adolescent services, and group home and semi-independent living environments.  Swanson Center, with over 100 employees, maintains fulltime offices in both Michigan City and La Porte.
