Articles of Faith

Does your church have a brief news announcement?  “Articles of Faith” will be appearing on Saturdays on WNLP. Please submit by 5 p.m. each Friday your church’s news brief in order to be considered for publication for the upcoming weekend. 

 The Greater LaPorte County Ministerial Association

The association has announced the details of its annual “Cross Walk,” scheduled for Good Friday,  April 10, 2020 in the city of LaPorte.  The annual tradition will start this year at First United Methodist Church ,1225 Michigan Ave., at noon. Six downtown churches and LaPorte Hospital will host this “walk” as it moves around the downtown. Each stop will include a short message and hymn from the host pastor on a “word” from the cross by Jesus.  The community is invited to participate in all or part of this service. The schedule and approximate times are as follows:

First Word: Father Forgive Them- First United Methodist Church

Second Word: Today You Shall be with me in Paradise—St. Peter’s Catholic Church

Third Word: Behold thy Mother—New Church

Fourth Word: My God, My God, Why Have You Forsaken Me—First Baptist

Fifth Word: I Thirst- La Porte Hospital Chapel

Sixth Word: It is Finished – Bethany Lutheran Church

Seventh Word: Into thy Hands I Commit my Spirit— St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

The Presbyterian Church of La Porte

Rev. Peggy Huston’s Lenten series of sermons focuses on “Stories of God’s Beloved,” about people in the Gospel of John. Sunday’s sermon, “The Most Memorized Verse in the Bible,” is based on John 3:16. Contemporary Cross Connection service is at 9 a.m. and traditional service is at 11 a.m. The church is at 307 Kingsbury Ave. in La Porte, is handicapped accessible, and child-care is available. Visitors are welcome.

“Twenty Minutes With God”

Community members are invited to take 20 minutes out of their lunch hour once a week during this time of Lent to attend services led by various pastors from the area.

LaPorte County Ministerial Association’s annual “Twenty Minutes With God” Lent series continues  on Wednesday, March 11.

First United Methodist Church 1225 Michigan Ave LaPorte, will host.

Each of the services will be offered at noon on Wednesdays and will last 20 minutes. The next services will on March 18, March 25 and April 1.

This year’s speakers include Pastor Mike Sutton, Sabin Flore from People & Songs, Pastor CJ Ketchum, Pastor Dennis Meyer and Pastor Peggy Huston.

Each service will be followed by a free simple lunch. The ministerial association is thankful to this year’s lunch providers: Golden Living Center LaPorte, First United Methodist Church of LaPorte, Hamilton Grove Retirement Community, Bethany Lutheran Church and Presbyterian Church of LaPorte.

Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church

Pastor Kevin Boushek of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 3628 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte invites the families of La Porte County to an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 4, 2020, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. This is a great opportunity for families with children ages two to 10. Egg areas will be sectioned off for four different age groups. The event is free for families to attend. In response to an awesome attendance record in 2019, Beautiful Savior asks that families pre-register for this year’s event, so that as many families as possible can participate, while being assured of a safe and secure environment.  The New Church

The New Church is located at 812 Indiana Ave., La Porte. This community-minded ministry offers a progressive, inclusive and loving Christian outlook. The church holds contemporary and traditional worship services on Sundays at 10 a.m., along with children’s Sunday School. Adult Sunday School is from 9 to 9:45.

 St. John’s Lutheran Church and School

St. John’s offers two traditional services, 6 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday; 11 a.m. first Sunday of each month with communion. The church is located at 111 Kingsbury Ave., La Porte.

Also, the community is invited to celebrate the Resurrection by attending an event presented by the St. John’s Jubilee Ensemble, of La Porte, on Sunday, April 5, 2020 at 3 p.m.

  “A Living Hope” is a free interactive musical event for all ages, with the Jubilee Ensemble performing at the La Porte Salvation Army, 3240 Monroe St. All are invited for refreshments and fellowship afterward, says Sue Rosselli, director of music at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
