La Porte Jaycees announce details for this year’s Fourth of July events

The La Porte Jaycees will kick off this year’s Fourth of July celebration a week before the big day, with an arts and crafts fair held in conjunction with the farmer’s market on Saturday, June 27, 2020.

“For 74 years, the Jaycees, an organization comprised of all volunteers, have hosted the premier family-friendly 4th of July celebration that encompasses an arts and crafts festival, community fireworks, and the largest 4th of July parade in the state of Indiana, an iconic event that puts La Porte on the map as Indiana state Capital for the day,” the Jaycees announced in a prepared statement.

The celebration will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 27 with the Jaycees Annual Arts and Crafts Fair, held in conjunction with the La Porte Farmer’s Market, in downtown La Porte.

On Friday, July 3 the Jaycees will host a community fireworks display at the La Porte County Fairgrounds. The family-friendly event is $5 per carload or $1 per walk-up, and will feature ACE Pyrotechnics.

Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 4 the Jaycees will present the annual 4th of July Parade in downtown La Porte. A community survey was conducted, and the Jaycees are proud to announce the winning theme, “2020: Our Vision, Our Community, La Porte Proud” for the 2020 celebration.

Parade applications are available online, at www.laportejaycees.org, and more details regarding the parade will be announced as the date nears.

“The La Porte Jaycees have helped the community celebrate Independence Day for over 70 years. We tirelessly work to put this event together, and there truly is not a better place to celebrate the 4th other than in La Porte,” said Ross Ratliff, La Porte Jaycees 4th of July Chairperson.

“The Jaycees look forward to this celebration each year, and we can’t wait to celebrate with our community and their families.”

The La Porte Jaycees is a leadership development organization for young professionals ages 18 to 40. “For over 70 years, this all-volunteer organization has been a staple to the La Porte community,” said Ratliff. “Iconic events such as the 4th of July Celebration, Deserving Children’s Shopping Tour, and the Community Easter Egg Hunt are all put on by the La Porte Jaycees. The La Porte Jaycees is the official young professionals organization of the La Porte Economic Advancement Partnership (LEAP), and continues to be a premier organization in the field of leadership development and in service to the community of La Porte.”
