New Prairie school corporation announces plans for eLearning, food service

New Prairie United School Corporation has released the following statement concerning its plans for the next several weeks, in response to coronavirus concerns:

“NPUSC has been collectively evaluating the latest updates concerning the COVID-19 Virus.  Governor Holcomb has issued several options for continued learning, as well as a 20 day waiver for schools during this unprecedented time. This is an extremely fluid matter with recommendations from state/county health officials changing by the hour.  We will continue to be vigilant as new information comes forward and please know we will be fully transparent if/when cases begin to arise in our school system. Our students, staff, and our community’s safety/well-being will continue to be our top priority as all decisions regarding this matter are considered.

“Our administrative team, school directors, and school board members have invested a lot of effort on what are our next steps.  Starting next week, we will begin a modified eLearning program that will take us to at least Spring Break.  All public schools in LaPorte and Starke County are implementing similar plans.  It is our hope to return to normal school programming April 13th.  However, the situation will be closely monitored and re-evaluated in early April based on regional/national trends related to COVID-19.  NPUSC will let all families know of post Spring Break academic plans by Friday, April 3rd.  All extra-curricular and co-curricular programs will be canceled through April 12th.   If changes occur,  you will be notified through the school messenger via text, email and phone.

WIFI Hotspots Protocol

The situation with COVID-19 coronavirus is rapidly evolving. In the event NPUSC schools close students will engage in eLearning where education takes place outside the four walls of their classrooms. We understand that the remote learning approach may result in a hardship for any students who do not have internet access at home.  If you are in this situation, we are asking you to complete this form for your student to request an internet hotspot.

We want to acknowledge that we are currently problem-solving a situation that is new to us here in NPUSC and appreciate your patience as we work to best support and educate each student. We will continue to reevaluate the situation on a daily basis and plan for the coming days and weeks.  As always, we appreciate your patience in this unusual time and hope you will both share your thoughts and concerns with us as well as extend grace as we move forward. After completing the above form it will be reviewed and you will be notified if you qualify to receive a Hot Spot. Hot Spot’s will be distributed as soon as they come. We will notify families via school messenger when they become available.

We will help accommodate students with any technical challenges or questions. Our hotline support systems are open from 8:00am-3:00pm (They will have a lunch break) for each one of our school buildings during eLearning days.  These questions and/or challenges should be technical, not instructional. All instructional questions should be directed to your student’s teacher(s).
