Schools are closed, but La Porte school corporation offers food services

The La Porte Community School Corporation has notified WNLP of the following:

Starting March 17, 2020 ALL La Porte Community Schools will be closed to the public and will not reopen until April 14, 2020.

Also, school corporation officials said plans for food service will proceed. Food services staff will be providing weekday, M-F, grab and go meals of breakfast and lunch items for any child in La Porte who is 18 years old or younger. No pre-registration or ID is necessary. Meals will be provided as in the past during our summer feeding program during the hours of 10 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday. They will be handed out in a “drive thru” style with pick up outside the designated sites. Meals will be provided up to and including April 3, 2020.

Here are the locations for food pick-up:

La Porte High School – Pick up in the front parking lot off of “I” Street.

Riley Elementary School – Pick up in the front parking lot at the front door.

Lincoln Elementary School – Pick up on Jackson St.  Cars should line up in the drive.

Hailmann Elementary School – Pick up in the staff parking lot off Philadelphia St.

Kingsford Heights Elementary School – Pick up in the bus lot off Knox Road.

Allesee Park

These services are provided in accordance with federal guidelines and restrictions.  All meals are prepared by trained staff in a controlled environment. Those picking up meals are asked to stay in their vehicle and drive up to the designated area where they will be given their meals by trained staff

This plan for food distribution will conclude at the start of spring break on April 4. LPCSC administration will be monitoring information from public health officials to determine any updates necessary.
