Sunday was “Slicer Pizza Day” and local officials joined volunteers to help in the free 200 cheese-pizza give-away that was held in the parking lot of La Porte High School.

Judging by the cars lined up in the high school parking lot, Slicer Pizza Day was a huge success. Jim Gronemann, owner of the local pizza store, was on hand to supervise the delivery by the volunteers, which included local officials La Porte Mayor Tom Dermody and Indiana State Representative Jim Pressel.

Prior to the 2 p.m. start time, vehicles were lined up in the high school parking lot and within the first 15 minutes nearly 100 pizzas were handed out. Several volunteers shuttled the pizzas to the delivery volunteers as the vehicle passed through the parking lot. La Porte Police officers were on hand to direct traffic and ensure smooth delivery.

Dermody earlier expressed his thanks to Jim Gronemann, owner of Domino’s, and Mark Francesconi and the La Porte school system for the event.
