SWD’s compost site and electronic drop-off closed; curbside recycling still running

In response to Gov. Eric Holcomb’s executive order limiting the public’s access to governmental facilities, the La Porte County Solid Waste District has announced that:

  • The compost site and electronic waste dropoff will be closed until further notice.
  • The SWD office will also be closed until further notice.

“We request that you do not participate in illegal dumping of any type,” said Sacha Gee-Burns, environmental educator/public outreach co-ordinator for the SWD. When the office reopens, ” we will be more than happy to accept your items then.”

She said that curbside recycling is currently running on schedule and SWD staff is still available via phone, website, Facebook, and email to help residents with recycling questions and concerns. Callers who reach the answering machine are asked to leave a message in the general mailbox so that SWD staff can return the call.
