Deputy Jacob C. Payne

Deputy Jacob C. Payne has been transferred from the jail division to the merit (patrol) division, La Porte County Sheriff John T. Boyd has announced.

The transfer fills an open vacancy within the ranks of the merit division.

Payne, 22, was born in Michigan City, Ind.  The same year he graduated from La Porte High School he was the 2015 recipient of the Neil Thompson Memorial Scholarship.  Following graduation, Payne enrolled in Trine University in Angola, Ind., where he graduated in May 2019, earning a bachelor of science degree, with a dual major in criminal justice and psychology.

Payne began his employment with the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office as a jail deputy on Sept. 3, 2019.  Days ago, on April 6, 2020, he was transferred to the merit division.

He will attend an upcoming 15-week session at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

“We are excited about the transfer of Deputy Payne,” Sheriff Boyd said. “We wish him the best of luck during his upcoming academy session and look forward to the service he will provide the citizens of La Porte County for many years to come.”
