La Porte County Symphony board names officers for its 2020-21 season

The La Porte County Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors recently announced the election of its 2020-21 board officers.

Kathryn Bernel will serve as chair; Leigh Morris, immediate past chair; Nolah Nasser-Gertner, vice-chair; Suzan Wade, secretary; and Lorri Feldt, treasurer.

The LCSO started nearly 50 years ago and has grown to a semi-professional orchestra of 60 members. The LCSO offers three subscription concerts (two pops concert and one classical); the Hoosier Star fundraiser and vocal competition; and the Holiday at the Pops.  In addition, each fall over 6,000 young students from La Porte and the surrounding community come to the Civic Auditorium for the Drayton Children’s Educational Concert.

These five individuals will be leading the 21-member LCSO Board of Directors: 

Kathryn Bernel

Bernel is a violinist who has been a member of the LCSO for several years. She created WHATSNEWLAPORTE.COM in 2009 and currently serves as its publisher and editor. She was a practicing attorney in La Porte for over 25 years. Before that, Bernel served as a reporter and editor for the La Porte Herald-Argus. 

Leigh Morris

Morris is a former mayor of La Porte. He also served as CEO of hospitals for nearly 30 years, including La Porte Hospital from 1978 to 1999. He is currently the president-elect of the La Porte Rotary Club and is an adjunct faculty member of Valparaiso University, teaching graduate courses in healthcare for the past five years.

 

Nolah Nasser-Gertner

Nasser-Gertner, now retired from AEC Professionals,  is an active community volunteer in Michigan City, La Porte and New Buffalo. Past affiliations include the La Porte County YMCA Board, Michigan City Planning Commission and the Michigan City Chamber of Commerce Board. Nasser-Gertner resides in New Buffalo, Mich.

Suzan Wade

A long-time resident of La Porte, Wade is now retired after serving 32 years as the office manager for Cannon Automotive. She is an active community volunteer with the La Porte Chapter of Psi Iota Xi as well as with the La Porte County Public Library, Hoosier Star and the First United Methodist Church in La Porte.

Lorri Feldt

Feldt serves seven counties in northwest Indiana as the regional director of the Indiana Small Business Development Center, located in Crown Point. Previously, Feldt served more than 25 years at Whirlpool Corporation where she held many roles in the areas of sales, marketing management and customer service.
