The Republican convention may find suffrage pickets to the right of it and Irish pickets to the left of it. It may enjoy being the most-picketed political convention in history.

1970

A trustee at the county jail walks away and, in an exchange of gunfire, suffers fatal wounds. Sheriff Clifford D. Arnold’s son, Sgt. James Arnold, sustains a slight skull wound in the exchange.

1995

Christopher Reeve’s doctor refuses to speculate on the actor’s prognosis, following a horse-riding accident that broke Reeve’s neck and left him paralyzed.

2010

Joshua Birchfield, a U.S. Marine from Westville who died in Afghanistan, is honored with a ceremony re-naming Westville Prairie Meadow Park to “The Birch Fields.”
