La Porte police look for a new Dodge touring car stolen in St. Joseph by two young boys who are supposed to be near this vicinity and will attempt to sell it.

1970

A proclamation made during graduation exercises says the elementary school which was called the “Tenth Street School” will officially be known as the “Harold W. Handley Elementary School.”

1995

The newly-purchased La Porte Clinic on I Street will expand and bring at least four new physicians to the area.

2010

The National City Bank sign in downtown La Porte is removed to make way for a new sign for the bank that purchased National City two years earlier.

1920

No little excitement was experienced in a Lincoln Way barber shop. The wife of an employee entered and made a rush for her husband with the intention of doing him injury.

1970

French and American officials make a pilgrimage to the battle sites of World War II today on the 26th anniversary of D Day—the allied invasion of Nazi-occupied France.

1995

The Indiana Department of Commerce awards $400,000 to the former Hotel Rumely project to transform the building into 75 housing units for elderly people with low to moderate income.

2010

Almost 2,400 bricks now compose the “Veterans Walkway of Honor” at Soldiers Memorial Park in La Porte.
