Father Nate Edquist to serve La Porte parishes

When he was a young La Portean, Nate Edquist was baptized at St. Peter Catholic Church, where he was a parishioner along with his family. He attended St. Joseph School. And he was involved in the Boy Scout troop at Sacred Heart.
On July 1, he returns to La Porte serve all three parishes.
Father Nathaniel Edquist has been appointed associate pastor of Sacred Heart, St. Joseph and St.Peter parishes,  the Most Reverend Robert J. McClory, bishop of the Diocese of Gary, has announced.
Father Nate, a 2009 graduate of La Porte High School, spent two years at Indiana University in Bloomington, planning to eventually enter the medical profession. But he felt compelled to follow a different path, and after two years at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, Mich., he received a degree in philosophy.
This was followed by four years of graduate school at the University of St. Mary of the Lake, in Mundelein, Ill. His experience there included graduate studies in theology, as well as parish internships, a hospital chaplaincy at St. Louis University, and two Spanish language immersions in Mexico.
Father Nate was ordained a priest in May 2017.
His first assignment was to serve as associate pastor at St. Patrick Parish in Chesterton, Ind. He was there three years, during which time he was also assigned to assist the Hispanic community at St. Paul Parish in Valparaiso, Ind.
This assignment in La Porte will be his second.
Father Nate is the son of Dr. Daniel and Jan Edquist, of La Porte.
