Outdoor fitness equipment now featured at both Luhr and Creek Ridge county parks

Fitness equipment at Creek Ridge County Park

Thanks to its partnership with the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte, the La Porte County Parks Department now has multi-fitness outdoor fitness equipment at Luhr Park and at Creek Ridge County Park.

The department will be installing two more sets of outdoor fitness equipment, so eventually all four of the county’s parks will feature this addition.

Laura Moyer, recreation and education programmer, said the fitness equipment has more than 16 different exercises, offering a full-body workout. She described the equipment as a multi-gym, suitable for users of all fitness levels.

Moyer said the equipment can accommodate up to five users at one time. “Each of the stations is designed to be adaptable. Beginners or casual users who want to exercise after a walk along the trail can realize additional health benefits while in nature,” Moyer said.

She encourages park visitors to follow the instructions on the machine itself to avoid injury. In addition, she said that Indiana Health Commissioner Dr. Kristina Box suggests that patrons keep using precautions, including social distancing and hand washing or hand sanitizer, after using the outdoor equipment.

The equipment at Luhr Park is located by the pond beneath the Kiwanis Shelter among the other fitness equipment, the playground and the kids’ fitness equipment. The equipment at Creek Ridge can be found under the Greenburg Shelter, close to the trail and not far from the playground.

County parks are open from 7 a.m. to sunset each day.

By order of the governor, playgrounds re-opened on Friday, June 12. Park patrons are encouraged to keep using precautions, including social distancing and hand washing or hand sanitizer upon their return from playgrounds.
