Articles of faith

Does your church have a brief news announcement?  “Articles of Faith” will be appearing at the end of the week on WNLP. Please submit your church’s news brief for the upcoming weekend at wnlp@whatsnewlaporte.com.

Presbyterian Church of La Porte

On Sunday Rev. Peggy Huston’s Father’s Day sermon is “Embracing Our Baptism,” from Romans 6:12-23. Glen Richardson will sing for both services.

With regard to COVID-19 concerns, in-house services will be postponed until the second Sunday of September. Until then worship services will be live on Facebook, laportepresbyterianchurch, at 9:30 and in the church parking lot, 307 Kingsbury Ave., at 11:30 a.m. Attendees may listen from their cars or bring lawn chairs and sit outside their cars while listening to the service, observing social distancing. The parking lot services will continue to be followed by a carillon recital around noon.

Glen Richardson’s photography is on display in the back windows of the church building.

The Mission Team continues its book drive to support Dunebrook, whose goal is to keep every child safe, healthy, and happy through home visitation, public education and forensic interviewing. At each home visited, Dunebrook gifts a book to every child in the home. The book drive continues through June 28 and children’s picture books ages 0-6 are preferred. A plastic, covered tub is by the front door of the church and books are collected daily.

The Mission Team also continues its food drive, stocking community pantry boxes. Items needed include canned proteins like tuna, chicken, corned beef, and ham. Pantry boxes are outside the church, at the trustee’s office at 1700 Lincoln Way, #6, and at the Civic Auditorium, 1001 Ridge St.

“This is another way to serve our community,” Huston said in a press release.

St. Paul’s Episcopal
St. Paul’s continues to offer only one online service at this point, a 9 a.m. morning prayer service on Thursdays via the church’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/stpaullaporte).
In addition the judicatory, the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Indiana, offers four online services daily,  Monday through Saturday, in addition to a Sunday morning service.  Those services can be found at https://ednin.org/virtual-worship-schedule

“As time  continues without in-person services, we may decide to add more locally.  Until then we are relying on our Diocese, and other parish, to share their resources and creativity,” said Mother Michelle Walker, the priest at St. Paul’s.
