The Democratic National Convention is in full sway in San Francisco. The first dramatic scene of the day was five spic-and-span U.S. Marines in sparkling-blue uniforms on the speaker’s bridge.

1970

Roman Catholics in Londonderry, Northern Ireland throw barricades and hurl stones and bottles at British troops sent to dismantle the group.

1995

Japan and the United States reach agreement in auto-trade talks.

2010

Rachael Bazzell of La Porte is a finalist in the Miss Indiana pageant.
